~ A Work in Progress ~

The Weeter family has a long history in Farming, Ranching & Steel Mills. My Mother's Family, the Allen's, has a long history in Aviation dating back to the late 1930's.
When I was in the 6th or 7th grade my teacher gave our class an assignment to write an essay on what we wanted to be when we grew up. For me that assignment was easy - I wanted to be a Pilot!

180 In the 60's we had a friend who had a small 180 Cessna aircraft who would take my mother flying & I would tag along every chance I got. Mom just wanted to go along for the ride - But I wanted to fly the plane so guess who got to ride in the front seat!
When I was a junior in college we went up for a Sunday flight and after landing my Mom told me If I wanted to get my pilots license she would pay 1/2 the cost.
When we taxied up to the hanger there was a big sign out front that said Introductory Flying Lesson for free. I grabbed my mom by the arm and we went in and signed up! Over the next year I went flying whenever time and money permitted getting my private pilot's license in 1968.

College graduation and landing my first job placed my flying in a holding pattern.

           High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
